Middle School Technical Production Audition Requirements

The Design & Production Department is looking for middle school students who have an interest and passion for the “Behind-the-Scenes” work that goes into all areas of production.  Fields of interest may include Costume Design and Construction, Props, Stage Management, Electrical and Lighting Design, Sound Design and Engineering, Projections, or other applicable areas of expertise.

To apply to the SDSCPA Middle School Design & Production program:

  1. Submit a digital portfolio that shows off your work and/or experience in “tech.” 

Pictures of the items, drawings, or a written paragraph about the experience are all acceptable.

  • Have you worked on shows before?  Show us some pictures or tell us about it.

  • Do you like to draw pictures of costume designs?  We would love to see them!

  • Have you dressed up for Halloween or Comic Con in something you made all by yourself?  Give us a glimpse!!

  • Do you make models out of clay?  Those are props, and we want to see your work!

If you have a visual art piece, a diorama, pictures of costumes you/ve made, holiday decorations you’ve designed and put up to show, or any woodworking you have accomplished, we would love to see it.  If you have a passion for design, we are looking for you!

   2. Submit a written or video statement.  Please include responses to the following:

  • What is your first and last name?

  • What is your current grade level?

  • Why are you interested in attending SDSCPA?

  • Why do you want to join Design & Production?

  • What parts of Design & Production are you most excited about?

 

 

Students will be evaluated individually.  Areas of assessment will include:

  • Creativity

  • Passion

BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR AUDITION APPLICATION

Please upload your Technical Theatre Portfolio pieces to a Google Drive or DropBox Folder.  Ensure the settings on your portfolio folder are set so that Anyone with the Link can view the contents.

If you choose to  submit a video statement, please upload your video to YouTube or Vimeo.

If you use YouTube, please upload the video as Unlisted to protect your student’s privacy. 

If you use Vimeo, please secure it with a password.  We will need access to this password to view your submission.
