ONLINE Middle School Design & Production Audition Requirements

Do you enjoy cosplay?  Do you love building things or doing arts & crafts?  Do you like decorating for the holidays?  The Design & Production Department is looking for middle school students who have an interest and passion for the "Behind-the Scenes" work that goes into all areas of production.  Fields of interest may include costumes, props, sets, lights and sound.  Join us as we create magic on the SDSCPA stages!

To apply to the SDSCPA Middle School Design & Production program:

Create a design portfolio that includes examples of your work and an artist statement.  Using the following criteria to help create your portfolio.

1. Your Portfolio should include:

• Images, drawings, sketches and/or videos of your creations or work - what do you enjoy making or doing?

  • If you have a specific area of interest and/or experience in technical theatre you would like to showcase you may also include this in your portfolio.

• For each piece you have chosen to include, add a brief paragraph that explains the following (you may also record your explanation instead of writing):

  • Why are you sharing this with us?

  • What did you enjoy about creating it?

  • Optional: What is something you learned in the process of making or doing it?

   2. Artist Statement:

• In addition to your portfolio, submit a video recording of yourself with the following information.  Recordings should be uploaded as a link in your portfolio.  Include the following:

• Your name (FIRST and LAST)

• Your CURRENT grade level?

• Your AREA(s) of interest in Design & Production (it's ok to have more than one!)

• Your EXPERIENCE in Design & Production (classes, productions, etc.)

• Your REASONS for wanting to major in Design & Production.  Why do you want to study "Tech"?

• What STRENGTHS do you bring to the Design & Production Program?

Students will be evaluated individually.  Areas of assessment will include:

• Craftsmanship

• Personal Expression

BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR AUDITION APPLICATION

Please upload your Technical Theatre Portfolio pieces to a cloud folder like Google Drive or DropBox.  Ensure the settings on your portfolio folder are set so that Anyone with the Link can view the contents.

Please add the link to your video statement to your cloud folder.

If you prefer to use YouTube, please upload the video as Unlisted to protect your student’s privacy and add the link to your cloud folder.
