Visual Arts Online Audition Requirements

The Visual and Media Arts Department is looking for students interested in the Fine Art.  Students may demonstrate a talent in one medium or a variety of mediums such as graphite, charcoal, pastel, pen and ink, paint, clay, plaster, or digital art.

 

To apply to SDSCPA Visual & Media Arts with an Emphasis in Fine Art:

Please submit 6 - 10 photographs of your most recent original artworks for your portfolio.  Works submitted for your portfolio should share your voice and your passion for fine art.  You may pick works you have already finished or create new ones for the audition.

 

The portfolio should include:

1. Presentation
  • Minimum of 6-10 ORIGINAL ART PIECES

  • Slides or photographs are acceptable for three-dimensional and/or over-sized pieces

  • Neatness of presentation is important – artwork should be shown without unnecessary marks, smudges, ragged edges or folds.

  • 2-dimensional work does not have to be matted

  • Include works done in a wide variety of media and approaches (graphite pencil, colored pencil, ink, charcoal, watercolor, tempera, acrylic, collage, papier maché, clay, etc).​​

​​2. Subjects

The Portfolio must include at least:

  • One self-portrait

  • One other work from direct observation.  Direct observations are drawings based on real-life objects and not photographs.

  • At least four of your best works.

3. Video Submission

  • In addition to your portfolio, submit a video recording of yourself completing a still-life of at least 3 items.  The drawing should be realistic and include your best efforts in composition (spatial layout), line quality (handling of media), value (realistic rendering), and proportion.  Your drawing should be done on plain, white 8.5”x11” paper using pencil only, and should be completed in a 10-30 minute period.

Recordings can be done with a smart phone, or video camera and uploaded into your google drive with a link in your submitted portfolio, or uploaded to YouTube and submitted with your portfolio.

 

Areas of assessment will include:

  • Variety of Media

  • Quality

  • Originality

  • Craftsmanship

BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR AUDITION APPLICATION

Please upload your pieces to a Google Drive or DropBox Folder.  Ensure the settings on your portfolio folder are set so that Anyone with the Link can view the contents.

Please upload your video to YouTube or Vimeo.

If you use YouTube, please upload the video as Unlisted to protect your student’s privacy. 

If you use Vimeo, please secure it with a password.  We will need access to this password to view your submission.
